David Ogilvy founded the agency that would become Ogilvy & Mather in 1948. Starting with no clients and a staff of two, he built his company into one of the eight largest advertising networks in the world with more than 450 offices and 20,000 staff across 169 cities.
Barker McCormac Ogilvy & Mather was founded by Alex McCormac, Brian McCormac and Roger Barker in 1963 in the then Salisbury(now Harare), Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) as Barker McCormac Advertising & Marketing.
In 1996 Barker McCormac Advertising & Marketing became part of the Ogilvy Worldwide Network, with Ogilvy Africa acquiring 25 % of the agency’s equity and resulting in the agency being renamed Barker McCormac Ogilvy & Mather.
Under the guidance of Alistair Carlisle (from 1990 to date), Barker McCormac Ogilvy & Mather has over the years grown to be the largest agency in Zimbabwe dominating the local market for over five decades now. In the vein of David Ogilvy, Barker McCormac Ogilvy & Mather has over many years become synonymous with the advertising industry and is recognized as a brand-focused agency that continues to act with integrity and honesty to deliver clients advertising messages.
Even today, fifty (50) years on Barkers Ogilvy (as we have become known in industry circles) is the leader in the industry, with a focus on building and transforming brands. True to David’s vision, we still see ourselves as a company that does more than ads and have proven that by maintaining our humility and an almost divine discontent at our past successes, we can do more than stay relevant. Barkers Ogilvy has created adverts and worked with iconic brands and clients such as BARCLAYS, BATA, BAT ZIMBABWE, BON MARCHE, CABS, DELTA, DSTV/MULTICHOICE, ECONET WIRELESS, NATIONAL FOODS, OK ZIMBABWE, OLD MUTUAL, TRUWORTHS, and UNILEVER among others.
